Leader Training Courses

Adult Training Steps (Think F-B-S-A)

  • F = Fast Start - done in person by our Scoutmaster & Troop Committee team. Also available online.
  • B = Basic. This starts the same for everyone, then is completed differently based on the person's job. -Everyone begins with New Leader Essentials. Then Scoutmasters & Asst. Scoutmasters must also complete Scoutmaster Specific AND Outdoor Skills Troop Committee (including all parents) follow New Leader Essentials with Troop Committee Challenge - presented either in person or online.
  • S = Supplemental - There's no possible way to list all supplemental training that's available. Included are: Youth Protection Training - (we know this is in the process of becoming part of the Basic requirements. Our troop requires it of any parent going on any outing) Safe Swim Defense Safety Afloat University of Scouting (a day with 6 one-hour sessions on a variety of subjects - you pick what you want to do) Climb on Safely First Aid/CPR Philmont Training Center (PTC) - various sessions
  • A= Advanced = Wood Badge A six-day leadership course, followed by practical application in Scouting. The course is presented in 1 of two formats: 3 days plus 3 days OR a week-long (6 day) course. Participation is by invitation. Pre-requisite: be fully trained (i.e. have completed the Basic training for your scouting position).

  • BSA Leader Sequence
    • Boy Scout Fast Start Training (Online http://olc.scouting.org/info/bsfs.html   )
    • Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
    • Troop committee members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training.

    • Youth Protection Training
    • Aquatics Training: Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat
    • Climb On Safely
      • Required for Outing Leader ASM for Climbing Outing
      • Typically offered at District Roundtable every so often
  • American Red Cross Training
    • First Aid Basics
      • Good for 3 years
      • Typically the troop arranges for this every three years in conjunction with T22 Adult CPR course
      • Many other ARC training opportunities in the community
      • Recommended for all troop leaders, scouts, parents and siblings
    • Adult CPR
      • Good for 1 year
      • Typically the troop arranges for this every year in May/June (T22 Adult CPR course)
      • Many other ARC training opportunities in the community for this course
      • Recommended for all troop leaders, scouts, parents and siblings
      • Required for Outing Leader ASMs
  • High Adventure Sequence (given by councils... seem to be different lists in different councils...)
    • Recommended for ASMs, required for earning certain High Adventure Awards
