United States Postal Service Food Drive

This annual USPS food collection drive is usually early in May.   Postal carriers across the nation collect food from houses on their route and donate it to local food pantries.  The Prince of Peace Food Pantry is the main collection center for the Woodland Hills area.

Troop 22's Role

Because Prince of Peace is our Chartered Organization, Troop 22 has traditionally offered help to sort and box the donated food.

How it works

Saturday Morning 8:00 am Set Up: Troop volunteers set up the tables, the awnings and begin to build the boxes.

Saturday Afternoon: Sort, Usually 12:00pm until 6:00 pm. Troop volunteers await the arrival of postal vehicles loaded down with donated food.  Scouts, under the supervision of Food Pantry staff, sort the food into categories determined by the Food Pantry (such as tomato sauce, canned soup, canned fruit, dry pasta, etc.)  Sorted food is placed into cardboard boxes.  The boxes are labeled and stored or distributed according to Food Pantry staff instructions.

Sunday: Continue sorting as needed.
