The Scoutmaster's Corner

The Boy Scouts of America has been an important part of my life.  Going through the program in the 70's was a life changing event.  As a kid, I may not have fully understood that our leaders were training us to be leaders.  But what I do remember is the hard work and dedication that was given to us by the adults to minimize our failures and build up our self-confidence. We had fun and learned at the same time...a winning combination!

Today, I am still in amazement what the scouts can do without constant adult intervention.  The scout's path to self-reliance grows week by week and can be witnessed at meetings and outings.

One of the most exciting times of the year is when the patrols get together to plan the activities for the year.  The scouts choose where they want to go and, if necessary, how to raise money.  It's an amazing process that should be seen by all!

There are many high adventure summer camps that offer something for everybody.  For the adults, it's a great time to get away from work and enjoy nature's beauty.  For the scouts, it's about venturing away from home, practicing scouting skills while building confidence in their life.

Though we like to think of the Troop as totally boy run, it does take a team of dedicated Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members and Adult Volunteers to provide the solid framework in which we operate.  Get involved if you can.  I would like to see all parents involved with the Troop.  It's about making a difference in the lives of our future leaders!
