Troop Parent Committee Meeting Minutes

January 24, 2008

 

Those present:

Sonia Henderson, Lisa Barney, Sandra Sigman, John Willauer, Mark & Karen De Jesse, Bob and Joy Czubiak

 Scoutmaster Report (Bob Czubiak):

Overview of Troop:

·  Patrol Leaders need more team building experience. There will be a future meeting for them at the Czubiak’s home.

·  Senior Patrol Leadership is doing great.

·  Patrol Leaders need to get their scouts in full uniform. There will be more uniform inspections.

·  Expecting new scouts to bridge into the troop after Pack 333’s Blue & Gold Event on 2/24. Currently we have 15 neckerchiefs for the new recruits. Need to let June Hunter know what other supplies to purchase for the incoming scouts.

·  University of Scouting is being held at Pinecrest School from 8am to 5pm on 1/26. Great opportunity to get extra training and sharpen skills.

·  Troop 22 Adult Summer Camp Meeting scheduled on 1/27. Need more parent involvement.

·  Mark DeJesse will give the Scoutmaster minute for the 2/25 Monday Meeting.

 Brief Overview of Outings:

February 9th to 10th Snow Skiing & Jubilee Outing (Bob Czubiak)- Outing will be lead by Jeff Feldman. Cost of outing is going to run $30-$90/scout. Permission slips have been passed out. This outing will be car camping & skiing, snowboarding or inter-tubing for a full day at Mountain High. Plan to leave POP at 7:30am and arrive at Mountain High at 9:30am. Then scouts will be picked up at around 3:00pm in order to get to Camp Jubilee before dark. Bring a lunch!

March 8th to 9th  Canoe Outing (Bob Czubiak)- Outing is scheduled at Lake Nacimiento near Los Robles. This is a 3 + hour drive. It was proposed to change site. Will look into other possibilities such as Castaic.

April 12th to 13th  Deep Sea Fishing & Campout at Point Mugu Outing (Mark DeJesse): There will be 33 spots available. This outing will be the most costly. Boat Charter fee alone will be $1950 plus there will be additional fees, such as $150 total food commitment, fishing pole rentals $12, fishing license $13 for those scouts 16 years old and up and tipping the crew. Troop will off set fee however the amount is not yet determined.  Other locations will be researched for cost savings.

Communications (Sonia Henderson):

·  VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED ASAP.

Need Secretary and there are 3 subcommittee positions open.

There are many positions that need to filled in order for the troop to run smoothly. We don’t want to over tax the existing volunteers. There are key positions as well as clerical ones. Share in the experience with your son.

 · New Parent Binder position has been filled.  Thank You Marcy Fried!

 · Round Table Report (Sonia Henderson): Nothing to report

 · Web Site (Sonia Henderson): Website has been updated.

Outdoors (Bob Czubiak):

-Summer Camp: Currently 4 scouts have signed up. Sign ups and first installment due. There are 28 scout spots available. Camp will be July 13-19th.

-High Adventure: Northern Tier will have 2 Crews. Still need more Adult Leadership. Almost closed. Price went up to $1500/scout.               

 Equipment Coordinator (Lisa Barney):

·  Stuart Barney will contact the necessary leadership to help put together a system for checking out equipment etc.

·  ASPL should be in charge when the Quartermaster is unavailable to supervise equipment for the outings.

·  Troop’s Semi Annual Inventory is scheduled Saturday, February 23rd. Need to recruit volunteers. Stuart is unavailable for this date.

Treasurer Finance Report (Sonia Henderson):

Financial profile of the troop is fine. There is $17,000 in the account but there will be a significant decrease due to Northern Tier and Camp Whitsett installments.

Fundraiser: Silent Auction/Dinner Dance is scheduled for September 13th at the McGrew’s residence. NEED VOLUNTEERS!

A friend of the Druez' has created the Patrick and Janice Druez High Adventure Campership, and the funds of $500 annually will be available for scouts’ in need for another 3 years. The campership will be managed by the Druez’.  Thank you note has been issued.

 Membership (Sonia Henderson):

·  Need to fill the position for Membership.

·  30 Welcome Packets have been created. 18 New Scout and 9 Parent Binders have been created.

·  New Scout supplies will be purchased via June Hunter for our new scouts.

·  Another local Pack will be visiting the troop

Training (Sandra Sigman):

Saturday, 1/26, University of Scouting is a great opportunity to hone on one’s skills. Swim Defense, Safety Afloat is still available on- line and should be taken for summer camp.

Advancement (Sonia Henderson):

·  Eagle Court of Honor 2/16/08 Burgess, Steffen and Zak and will be a POP at 6:30pm.

·  Troop Court of Honor is scheduled for February 25, 2008 at which time we will    also honor the Burgess’.
