Troop 22 Parent Meeting Minutes

February 28, 2008

Attendance:                      Bob & Joy Czubiak, Mike & Sonia Henderson, Mark & Karen De Jesse

Mark Shuler, Sandra Sigman and Lisa Barney

Scoutmaster (Bob Czubiak):

Troop Master on-line Program is going to be updated and given a new password.

Generous Donation: The DeJesse Family obtained a generous donation for the troop. This money will

help offset the Deep Sea Fishing trip and Summer Camp cost for the troop. THANK YOU!!

New Wicking T-Shirts are being considered and researched for our Class B uniform.

Northern Tier:    2 Crews are being formed. Need to pass and collect Class 3/Form B Insurance forms and other pertinent materials.

Camp Whitsett:  Few spaces are available. Pierre Basille has received a quote of $2600 for the bus to

transport the troop to camp that is significantly lower that the original estimate. Parent Committee voted and approved the Troop will pay for Summer Camp Leaders’ fees as this seems to be the standard practice for most Troops. The effect of these is that the cost for the Scouts to attend summer camp is now reduced from $535.00 to $460.00

Camporee May 2-4: Theme is “Old Skills for a New World”. Event will be held at Veteran’s Park in Sylmar. Scott Israel is the Outing Leader. To start gearing up for this outing, our PLC needs to work on Patrol Flags and Patrol Yells.

2010 National Jamboree: Information was distributed at the Court of Honor.

March Canoe Outing (Mark Shuler): Look Out Site at Lake Castaic is where Troop 22 will be located. There are nice amenities available to the troop near this site. Troop will work on new skills and prep for Northern Tier. For the new scouts, Troop will work on plant identification as well as lashing and staves skills for Camporee. Proof of Insurance/Rider is needed for the site. This information needs to be obtained by Council. FYI, Council’s Insurance coverage as of 1/1/08 covers all troops activities. Need to check into Fire Permit as well as Canoe Permits. Will obtain canoes from Ventura Council. All canoeing activities will be on the lower lake and possible fishing available at the upper lake. Will make a timeline for all activities.

April 11-13 Deep Sea Fishing Outing (Mark DeJesse): Due to Private Fund Raising and the Troop subsidizing, the initial cost to scout has been reduced to the sum of $ 40/scout as an all inclusive except for snacking food and Patrol Food costs. The outing has been extended from Friday night through Sunday, so the scouts will have an easier and early start on Saturday.  Deposit for the boat is due as of 3/12. Treasurer will be notified and payment will be issued.

Communications (Lisa Barney): Newly recruited and had nothing to report.

Roundtable Report (Mike Henderson): Nothing to Report

Website: Position newly filled by

Outdoors (Mike Henderson):

Summer Camp: As stated earlier, the cost of attending summer camp has been reduced to $460.00  Jerry Seymour has again offered to sponsor one Scout in need of financial assistance to attend Summer Camp.  This Scout must keep a diary of his experiences at summer camp to submit to Jerry.  Camperships are also available at Council that cover 50% of the cost.

Equipment Coordinator (Lisa Barney): The Semi-Annual Troop Inventory was a bust. Only 2 Patrols  were represented, therefore they looked over their equipment  and made certain that it was ready for the current outing. New policy will be created and put into effect. The Equipment Coordinator, Scoutmaster, Quartermaster, Scout Patrol Leader and Assistant Scout Patrol Leader will devise a system based on patrols checking into their gear prior to an outing. Also, a system will be made for equipment that is in ill repair and requires a new purchase. Adults requested a purchase of the following for the up and coming outing: Kettle, 2 Large Stock Pots, griddle, Propane and sauté pan as well as a new cover for the new 2 burner stove. Need dimensions for the donated (thank you Mark Shuler) stove in order to get a cover.

Shed needs some work.. Motion Sensor Light at the front of shed needs to be repaired and adjusted. Need to contact Soyster Electric. Sonia will contact church to get the approval for this work.   The Troop would like to put a 7’ overhang on the shed to accommodate the loose poles and other parts lying about the shed.

Treasurer Finance Report (Sonia Henderson): Account is in good standing.

Silent Auction/Dinner Dance (Joy Czubiak):  The event will be on September 13, 2008. Collected over $2,000 in donations as a resulr of our solicitation mailer and more donations will be coming. List has been created. Need to send Thank You letters.
