Troop Parent Committee Meeting Minutes

September 27, 2007

Those present:  Mike and Sonia H., Lisa and Stu B., Bob C., John W., Barry and Rayna B., Cathy Z., Karen D.

Scoutmaster Report (via Barry Burgess):

This will be an exciting year.  Leadership /training crews are in the works with a desire for improvements.

Patrick is feeling better and will go on the next outing.

Fish Bowl /October Outing - Long hike of 6.8 miles, possible swimming.  No fires permitted therefore meals will be “cold camping”.  This will be a new challenge for patrols cooking.  Need filters for water, which will need to be checked prior to going.  Scouts will need to bring 2 full water bottles 32oz.  Tour permit filed and detailed map with directions available.

Joshua Tree/November Outing - Need an Outing Leader.  This will be an expensive outing ($400) due to the activity-Rock Climbing.

Piedra Blanca/December Outing - Other side of Mt Pinos.  No cost to troop.

Assistant Scoutmaster Meeting (ASM) - scheduled on 10/6, which is an over-night event.

Troop NEEDS ASM

Communication (Rayna Burgess):

Web Site has been transferred over to John Willauer.  This site will be up and running soon.

Scout Binders position has been assigned.

Still have Adult positions open.

Roundtable Report (Mike Henderson):

Meets the 2nd Wednesday of October.

New format this coming meeting.  Booth stations are going to be set up (i.e. High Adventure).

Re-Chartering Information to be collected.

Outdoors (Mike Henderson):

Summer Camp:  Pierre Bassile will be the Adult Leader and we will charter a private bus.

High Adventure:  Northern Tier will have 2 Crews but there is no Adult Leadership yet.

Equipment Coordinator (Stuart Barney):

Where are the water purifiers that will be needed for September outing?  Will need 2 filters (borrow, locate or purchase).

First Aid Box needs to be re stocked. Items are on order.

Need a system for checking out equipment. Shed was a mess. ASPL should be in charge when the Quartermaster is unavailable to supervise equipment for the outings.

Check out list will be created for Quartermaster or ASPL at every outing.

Treasurer

Finance Report (Sonia Henderson):

Signatures on the account were presented and approved by the Parent Committee.

Popcorn Fundraiser (Lisa Barney):

Show & Sell was a bust.  4 scouts boothed for 3 hours and sold only $170 worth of popcorn.

Suggest that the troop only partake in the Take Order Campaign.  Should never compete with other fundraisers during the Popcorn fundraiser.  10/15 is last day to collect popcorn orders and money.  Remember to collect for the Military Operation Gratitude.  Scouts will deliver collected popcorn.

Pancake Breakfast (Karen Dejesse):

Scouts need to pick up their packets.  Need to set senior ticket price as child’s ticket price.

Donations: Supermarket gift cards, sausages (Elias family), flowers (McGrew Family).

Still need syrups IHOP and Starbucks.

Will advertise Warner Center News/Acorn/Valley News.

Centerpiece will be flowers/ Barney’s offered centerpieces too.

Garage Sale (Kathy Zak):

Set up should be easy.

Advertisement will be flyers, Pennysaver, Daily News.

 Need Trucks and volunteers.

Membership (Barry Burgess):

Need to create more Den Chiefs for the nearby packs.  This will give our troop greater visibility and future growth.

Advancement (Bob Czubiak):

The troop is looking great.  The scouts really advance via Emerald Bay Summer Camp, Outdoor Training is at Camp Josepho.  Dates are posted on Troop 22 website.
