Minutes of the Troop 22 Parent Committee Meeting
April 26, 2007
Those present: Sonia, Barry , Rayna, Dave, Brian and Judy.
The May 19, 2007 will be at Lake Piru. Dave Cost is estimated at $250.00 or less and includes slip fees, campground fees and parking fees. The Scouts will canoe, fish and possibly swim during this outing. All leaders attending this outing should complete the Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat on-line training.
The Annual Swim check is scheduled for June 9, 2007 and will be held at the McGrew residence. During this event, we will have a new parent meeting and make a recruiting effort. Bob is the outing leader for this event.
During May and early June, Scouts should present any desired outing destination or event to their Patrol or the Troop in preparation for annual planning.
Rountable report – Camporee was discussed during the April roundtable.
Creation of Eagle COH Policy Sub-Committee – a sub-committee will be created to evaluate and create policy regarding Eagle Courts of Honor. It is recommended that beginning mid-2008 the Troop schedule quarterly Eagle COHs in hopes of keeping our calendar under control, help keep costs down and ease the scheduling demand on our busiest leaders. Anyone interested in participating in this committee is welcome and should contact Sonia as soon as possible.
Brian will have permission slips for the Lake Piru outing and the June Swim check available at next Monday’s meeting. An enhanced packing list will be provided for the Lake Piru outing to include items necessary for water activities.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the purchase of the following items: 2 water filters with extra filters, new utensils for all patrol sets, 4 new green tents for the new patrols, 2 cooksets to cannibalize and complete existing sets (although we need to research if we can purchase only the pieces needed), 2 fuel filters for the Whisperlite stoves, first aid supplies to update existing kits.
Going forward, the Troop will budget the purchase of 2 new tents per year
USPS Food Drive - we need volunteers to come early and help set-up. Anyone interested please contact Sandra, the event coordinator.
There is approximately $20,000.00 in the Troop checking account. Most of this money will be used to pay for Philmont and Emerald Bay. By the end of this fiscal year, we should have between $3,000-$4,000 to begin the new fiscal year.
Membership –
Judy is recruiting Den Chiefs and Den Aids to help during Cub Parent Weekend and Cub Scout Day camp. Please contact Judy if your Scout is interested.
Our Troop will support Pack 22 and Pack 333’s campout on May 5 by providing Scouts to assist with a “round robin” of events.
We expect two new Scouts to join us during next Monday’s meeting.
First Aid/CPR training will be held at the Burgess residence on May 12, 2007. Immediately following training, participants will go to Prince of Peace to help with the USPS food drive.
Troop Merit Badge Counselor Orientation will be held on May 14, 2007 during the Troop meeting. All parents are invited to attend.
Sonia and Judy will work on adult recognition for the upcoming district award ceremony.
Mini Court of Honor will be held on Monday, May 7, 2007. Parents are requested to bring cookies for after the Troop meeting. A parent recruiting session will be held after the COH during the Troop meeting.
