Troop Parent Committee Meeting Minutes

December 21st, 2006

7:30pm, Henderson Home

Attendance:

Sonia, Mike, Bob C., Barry, Rayna, Lisa, Judy, Janice, Marcy, Peggy, Bruce, Bill

January Outing Treasure Hunt (Janice for Patrick Outing Leader)

Reserved Camp Jubilee
Patrick already making clues and challenges -- all quite top secret!
Inviting Pack 333 (3 Webelos patrols) and Pack 75 Webelos patrol
Sonia made an invitation for these packs
Want to keep in mind this is not a Webelos outing but a joint outing the Boy Scouts should have as much fun as the Webelos.
We need to set a date to collect $$ from Webelos
- $15 per adult for food
- Webelos will shop and pay for food with a den chief
- Once they pay, it is usually a stronger commitment

February Snow/Fishing Outing (All -- No Outing Leader!)

Need an Outing Leader for this outing!
May switch this outing with March outing if no snow

March Tehachapi Backpack Outing (Bill M. Outing Leader)

We will be in full Philmont mode for this outing
We will hike as Philmont crews and then another crew
The Philmont crews will be in serious training at this point

Communications (Rayna)

Had out Annual Communications Subcommittee meeting in December
- Started review of Troop Website
  - We are looking to make things consistent, up to date, and no links that lead to nowhere
  - We are not going to revamp or radically change anything
  - Website is huge
  - We need volunteers to click on links and send email to Rayna when they find problems
  - It was suggested that once its updated we should let the PLC know so that they can run a skill on how to use our troop website if they are interested
    - That skill would make their jobs easier!
- Photo uploading is too hard for many pictures.
  - Can give Historian (Daniel S) disks full of pictures
  - Historian will be able to bulk upload to the website
  - Historian will be mentored by Photo Webmaster Joel S.

Roundtable Report (Mike)

Blue and Gold Dinner -- mostly socializing with other Scout volunteers
Council Recognition Dinner will be Jan 25th at the Odyssey and costs $65 per person

Outdoor/Activities Subcommittee Report

Mike has forms for National Camping Award etc.
- This was an item identified at the Annual Outdoor/Activities Subcommittee Meeting
- It is a requirement for this subcommittee by BSA but extremely hard to find any information about
Summer Camp (Mike)
- We got reservations for our first choice dates (July 15-20)
- Leader books came in the mail!
- Mike has a signup sheet, sign ups are ongoing until full
- District Summer Camp Leaders Meeting
  - March 17th, 2007 at the WLACC Council Office 4-7pm
- January 7th is our Troop 22 Summer Camp Leaders Kickoff Meeting
- Bob C. is Summer Camp Scoutmaster
- Bob C. will pick his other leaders as date approaches and we know our numbers and how much room we have
- Troop 22 Leaders Kickoff meeting
  - January 7, 2007 3pm until 5pm at the Henderson home
  - for any leaders willing to help with the planning and organization of summer camp
  - We hope to have:
    - Outdoor/Activities Subcommittee Chair
    - Medical Forms Coordinator
    - Advancement Subcommittee Chair
    - Equipment Coordinator
    - Any Assistant Scoutmasters or Registered Committee Members interested in going to summer camp or helping support summer camp at home are welcome and encouraged to attend!
High Adventure -- Philmont (Mike)
- Philmont package came in
- Trek plans due March 1st
- High Adventure Leader Meeting Jan 21st
Equipment Coordinator
- Bikes in shed take up too much room
  - Sonia is going to give Marti a call about putting them in the shed at Marti's house
- Whisper Lites Need Work
  - Need to be cleaned and fixed up
  - Need to have "skill" in cleaning whisper lites
  - Must filter the fuel
  - Troop needs more funnels to filter? No. Only 1 person should be fueler
  - Keep the pump on the bottle -- don't take it off and put it in the bag with the rest of the stove
- Bruce has old patrol boxes with cooking and camping equipment in them
  - It was suggested that we can donate these supplies to a Pack (Pack 22?) or to Prince of Peace etc.

Advancement Subcommittee Report (Lisa)

Court of Honor in February
- Give out service stars
Spencer's Eagle Court December 30th
- Suggestion: make sure there are volunteers to clean up after Eagle Court
- In the past people have just left, leaving clean up to those with keys for locking up
Andrew S's Eagle Board of Review 9:00 tonight!!!!

University of Scouting January 20th

Membership Subcommittee Report (Judy)

Starting Pack 22
- Chartered Pack 22 with Prince of Peace, but they will meet at Ivy Academia (contact webmaster for more info)
- Looking for Pack 22 flags
Recharter was lowest point in 7 years
- Need to encourage Scouts to bring a friend to meetings and outings
- If each Scout brought in 3 Scouts our numbers would be back
- Numbers are down throughout Scouting, even in Cubs
- We need to recruit from outside of Scouting, not just count on Webelos bridging up
- A Recruiting Outing was suggested
  - Something really special that the Scouts would REALLY want to do
  - Only those Scouts who invite a friend along would be able to attend
  - Perhaps in summer when our calendar is less full

Other Business

Next meeting is January 25th which conflicts with the Council recognition dinner... to be resolved.
